This classic dessert is rich, smooth, and bursting with the warm aroma of real vanilla. Perfect on its own or as a base for your favorite toppings, this recipe will elevate your dessert game to new heights.
Ingredients
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
¾ cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract (or seeds from 1 vanilla bean pod)
A pinch of salt
Directions
- In a medium saucepan over low heat, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, and salt until the sugar dissolves completely. Do not let it boil. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract (or scrape the seeds from the vanilla bean pod into the mixture).
- Allow the mixture to cool at room temperature for about 15 minutes, then cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (or overnight) to ensure it’s thoroughly chilled.
- Pour the cold mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions, usually about 20-25 minutes, until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
- Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for an additional 2-4 hours to firm up before serving.
- Scoop out generous portions of your homemade vanilla ice cream and enjoy it plain or topped with fresh fruit, chocolate syrup, or sprinkles!
