In two weeks we will have the highly anticipated premiere of Backrooms of A24a film adaptation of the viral internet creepypasta horror phenomenon, The Backroomscreated by Kane Parsons.
The most recent promo shared by the independent film studio invites the audience to disconnect from reality, and enter another place that presents a terrifying liminal space.
The main cast is made up of Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), Chiwetel Ejiofor (The Life of Chuck), Find Bennett (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), y Lukita Maxwell (Shrinking), who we see in the new promo.
Other cast members include Mark Duplass (The Morning Show) y Avan Jogi (Zombieland: Double Tap).

By the way, Backroom marks Parsons' debut as a feature film director, but also, at only 20 years old, he becomes the youngest director of an A24 project.
Parsons directs the script written by Will Soodik (Ash vs Evil Dead, Westworld, Homeland).
Backrooms adapts the found footage horror universe that Parsons popularized on YouTube, which in turn was inspired by a 4chan creepypasta. His anthology series premiered in 2022 on YouTube, accumulating 200 million views, and focuses on the story of a therapist who searches for her patient, who mysteriously disappeared in a dimension beyond reality..
The Motion Picture Association (MPA)the organization in charge of granting age ratings to all Hollywood film projects, gave Backrooms the Rated R by:
“Because of its strong language and violent content/bloody images.”
The adaptation is produced by A24, Atomic Monster of James Wan, 21 Laps Entertainment of Shawn Levyy Chernin Entertainment.
A24 and Chernin Entertainment are also co-financiers.
James Wan, Michael Clear, and Shawn Levy are producing alongside Robert Patino, Dan Cohen, Dan Levine, and Chris Ferguson. Executive producers are Judson Scott, Alayna Glasthal, and Chris White.
The project went into production in Canada in the summer of 2025. By the way, Backrooms is projecting a premiere around $20 million dollars at the domestic box office (United States), an impressive figure, although on a personal level, I think it could be even higher.
The film has a production budget less than $10 million dollars.
The modest budget, and the estimated box office projections, would be positioning it in a low-cost, high-profit production modelsimilar to the specialty of another industry studio, Blumhouse.

Parsons has expanded on the mythology of his short with several videos posted on his YouTube channel, Kane Pixels. Each has racked up millions of views.
