Paramount Pictures ha acquired the rights to the slasher horror franchise, A Nightmare on Elm Streety is preparing a new movie what will this world take horror classic to a modern audienceaccording to THR reports.
The new movie will be the first under the new studio label, Paramount Primalwhich will be associated with emerging storytellers and established filmmakers to produce films on tight budgets in various genressuch as horror, comedy, action and realistic science fiction. In other words, low-budget cinema that we love.
This initiative is led by J.D. Lifshitz y Raphael Margulesproducers of Barbarianthe horror hit of 2022, which launched Zach Cregger to fame.
No details have been revealed about this new version of the franchise known as Nightmare on hell street in our region, although the media explains that, “It will be set in the universe of A Nightmare on Elm Streetbased on the original script”.
Probably, based on that short description, it would be a remake that avoids the word remake. The last time we had Freddy on the big screen, it was precisely in a remake, released in theaters in 2010, which did not enjoy much popularity or commercial success.
The new delivery is produced by Yes Labunkawidow of original director Wes Craven, and her son Jonathan Cravenboth in charge of managing Craven's estate, which has transferred the rights to the original script to Paramount.
Labunka stated in a press release the following about the project:
“We look forward to bringing the world of Wes Craven's Nightmare on Elm Street to a new generation of dedicated fans. We know Wes would have been thrilled to see horror taking its long-rightful place in the cultural canon. We can't wait to all gather in a darkened movie theater—around today's bonfire—as the next chapter in the story of Nightmare”.
Producers Lifshitz and Margules added in their own statement:
“We can't remember a time before our admiration for Wes Craven. That Iya and Jonathan have entrusted us with this opportunity to help bring a new story to this world is an indescribable honor. We look forward to working alongside them to bring a terrifying new nightmare to audiences around the world and welcome Freddy.”
Could it be that in this new version the origins of Freddy Krueger will be addressed in a more in-depth way? Nightmare on hell street It is one of the longest-running horror sagas in cinema, however, if there is one narrative that has surprisingly not yet been detailed, it is Krueger's origins. While it is true that history has provided some clues, the stories of the origin of the popular villain have lacked depth. The character was played by Robert Englund in Craven's 1984 classic, and he reprized him in seven sequels, in addition to the series Freddy’s Nightmares. Actor Jackie Earle Haley played the villain in the 2010 remake.
