Olivia Wilde and A24's 'The Invite' Will Debut on HBO Max in October

The sexual tragicomedy of Olivia Wilde y A24, The Invite It already has a streaming release date.

The film, which had a successful run in theaters during the summer, will begin to be broadcast exclusively on HBO Max on October 23and will premiere on HBO's linear channel on October 24 at 8:00 pm ET.

The Invite is the English-language remake of the Spanish film, Sentimental (2020), about a couple on the verge of breaking up who receives a suggestive invitation from the neighbors, during a dinner between both couples.

The plot follows Angela and Joe (Wilde and Seth Rogen) and how their marriage has fallen into a routine. Angela invites her enigmatic neighbors (Penelope Cruz y Edward Norton) home for cocktails, and unexpectedly discover how their neighbors are polyamorous and might be hosting weekly orgies.

This is the independent film proposal with which Wilde and A24 conquered the audience in a busy summer season at the movies. The independent film was a box office success, grossing more than $55 million worldwide during the summer.

The script for this new version was co-written by Rashida Jones (The Other Black Girl, Celeste & Jesse Forever) y Will McCormack (Celeste & Jesse Forever).

Wilde's third feature film as director (Booksmart, Don’t Worry Darling), celebrated its world premiere at the Sundance Dinner Festival in January of this year, where unleashed the first big bidding war of the yearwith several studios bidding to acquire the rights to Wilde's film. The bidding war was led by NEON, Focus Features, Netflix, Searchlight Pictures, and A24 – which ultimately won the bid by paying $12 million.

During the bidding, Wilde pushed for a traditional theatrical release.

Wilde shot the film in Los Angeles in 23 days and in sequence.

Megan Ellison, David Permut, and Ben Browning produce The Invite. Ellison produced the critically acclaimed, Booksmartwhich marked Wilde's debut as a feature film director. Annapurna Pictures, FilmNation Entertainment, and Permut Presentations are producing the project.
