The franchise Sicario will officially return with a third installment.

According to Deadline reports, Sicario 3 is underway with the confirmed returns of the leading trio Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro y Josh Brolin.

Black Label Media and Thunder Road chose Padraic McKinley as director of Sicario 3scripted by Oscar nominee, Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, See, Spencer, Locke). McKinley has directed series such as Kingdom, Fightworld y Debris. This year he made his debut as a feature film director with the drama The Weight.

The details of the plot are currently being kept completely secret.

Blunt, Del Toro and Brolin have already read the most recent draft of the script and have agreed to return. The trio also met with several candidates to take the reins of management prior to the election of McKinley, who emerged as the favorite.

The source explains that McKinley is currently working with Knight on the script, incorporating feedback from the actors reprising their roles.

The filming of Sicario 3 It is scheduled for early next year. Several studios are reportedly interested in the project, which will be presented to the market.

The new film will continue the franchise created and written by Taylor Sheridan. The first delivery, Sicario (2015) directed by Denis Villeneuve, captivated with an intense story that revolves around an FBI agent (Blunt) recruited by a CIA officer (Brolin) to help hunt down a dangerous drug cartel. The character played by Del Toro joined them both.

The sequel Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018), was directed by Stefano Solima, with Sheridan returning as screenwriter.

Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill and Thad Luckinbill will produce the third installment. Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Ed McDonnell also return as producers.

Regarding Sheridan's participation, the producers previously said that it is complicated due to his work schedule, although he remains close to Sicario 3: “He's very busy, and he's staying close to the project, and obviously he's going to have input as well. Then it's just a matter of when we get the schedules lined up and all of that starts to have real conversations to see who's available and who wants to do it. So certainly, I think everyone who's ever been involved in this has stayed very close and has continued to be a fan of it. So we'll just move forward and see what lines up and who lines up in our window.”

The third installment would mark the end of the franchise.

Blunt recently appeared on The Devil Wears Prada 2 and filming concluded A Quiet Place Part 3; Brolin will star Whalefallin theaters this October, while del Toro recently earned an Oscar nomination for One Battle After Another.
