Here is a recipe to make vegan cheese bread, an animal-free version of this delicious Brazilian delicacy:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of sour sprinkle

  • 1 cup cooked and mashed sweet potato

  • 1/2 cup of sweet sprinkle

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

  • 1/4 cup of water

  • 1/4 cup plant-based milk (such as almond, soy, or oat milk)

  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast (optional, for a cheesy flavor)

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • In a large bowl, combine the sour tapioca, sweet tapioca, salt and nutritional yeast (if using).
  • In a small saucepan, heat the vegetable oil, water and vegetable milk until hot but not boiling.
  • Pour the liquid mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. 
    Mix well with a spoon until you form a homogeneous mass.
  • Add the mashed sweet potato to the dough and mix until well incorporated.
  • With lightly oiled hands, take small portions of the dough and make small balls.
  • Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving a little space between them.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cheese buns are golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
