Ingredients
1 kg of potatoes (prefer mashed potatoes, such as asterix potatoes)
1/2 cup of milk
4 tablespoons of butter
Salt to taste
Ground black pepper to taste (optional)
Directions
- Peel the potatoes and cut them into medium, even pieces.Â
This will ensure they cook evenly. - In a large pot, place the potatoes in enough cold water to cover them.Â
Add a pinch of salt to the water. - Place the pan over medium-high heat and let the potatoes cook until tender.Â
This should take about 15-20 minutes.Â
To check if the potatoes are cooked, stick a fork in a piece;Â
if the fork penetrates easily, the potatoes are done. - Drain the cooked potatoes in a colander.
- Then put the potatoes back in the empty pan over low heat.Â
This will help evaporate any remaining moisture. - Use a potato masher or ricer to mash the potatoes until smooth and free of lumps.
- Add the butter to the mashed potatoes and mix well until it melts completely.
- Heat the milk in a separate pan or in the microwave until hot but not boiling.
- Add the hot milk to the mashed potatoes little by little, stirring continuously.Â
Keep adding milk until you reach the desired consistency.Â
If you prefer a creamier puree, add more milk. - Season with salt and ground black pepper to taste.Â
Mix well to incorporate the seasonings. - Serve the mashed potatoes hot with main dishes such as meat, chicken or fish.
