In his teens he moved to Los Angeles, beginning his acting career with guest roles in series such as Boys Will Be Boys, Growing Painsy Sydney. His great opportunity came when he was 24 years old with the iconic Friends.

Friends was the most popular series of the ’90s, consolidating the careers of Perry and her co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc y David Schwimmerwho marked a before and after on the small screen, by getting a contract with which they received a payment of 1 million dollars per episode.
The official account of Friends on X (formerly Twitter) published the following:
In the 2004 book, “Friends… ‘Til the End”Perry said:
“I was 24 when I came on the show. I’ll be 34 when this is over, and those are really important years in someone’s life. So to do it all in public… it was difficult. At first you have the wave of ‘I’m famous and this is exactly what I’ve wanted my whole life,’ but then you go through the whole seclusion stage where you’re like, ‘I wish everyone would stop seeing me.’ And then, hopefully, you’ll eventually get over all that. You find things in your life that bases you, like your family and your good friends.”
Perry battled addiction behind the scenes and sought treatment in 1997 and 2001. In 2016, he said he didn’t remember filming seasons 3 through 6 of Friends. In 2013 he admitted to abusing alcohol and Vicodin, which a doctor had prescribed to him after a jet ski accident in 1997.
“I had a big problem with alcohol and pills and I couldn’t stop. Eventually things got so bad that I couldn’t hide it, and then everyone knew.”
He later founded Perry House, a sober living center for men, in his former Malibu beach house.
“The interesting reason I can be so helpful to people now is that I make mistakes so often. It’s nice for people to see that someone who once had problems in their life no longer has problems.”
In November 2022, Perry published his memoirs, “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir”where he confessed that he almost lost his life due to his addictions.
After the conclusion of Friends In 2004, Perry struggled to find her place in the industry. She got involved in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip from NBC (from 2006 to 2007), then co-created Mr. Sunshine on ABC in 2011, although it was canceled after airing 11 episodes. In 2013 she was part of the NBC comedy, Go Onwhich had one season, and finally the reboot The Odd Couplewhich aired three seasons on CBS, from 2015 to 2017.
