Ingredients

  • 3 cups of wheat flour

  • 2 cups of sugar

  • 1 cup of milk

  • 1 cup butter (at room temperature)

  • 4 eggs

  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, washed and chopped

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

  • Juice of half a lemon

  • 1 cup of whipped cream

  • Fresh strawberries to decorate

Directions

  • In a pan, mix the chopped strawberries, sugar, cornstarch and lemon juice.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.
  • Set aside to cool.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C and grease a cake tin.
  • In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and creamy.
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Add the sifted wheat flour, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour.
  • Add the baking powder and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  • Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan.
  • Spread the strawberry filling evenly over the dough in the pan.
  • Cover with the remaining dough.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 40-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool completely before removing from the pan.
  • When the cake is completely cool, cover with whipped cream and decorate with fresh strawberries.
