We already have the first teaser trailer and official looks at the third season of the acclaimed original medical drama from HBO Max, The Pittwhich will debut the new season in January 2027.

With filming underway since June, HBO and HBO Max surprise audiences by sharing a first teaser showing the return of Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) after taking a three-month break at the end of the second season.

In the preview, we hear Dr. Robby in voiceover say, “I knew my first day back was going to be… tough, dealing with what we're experiencing here. And I knew things could get a little chaotic. But it's time to get back to work.”

The teaser shows footage of medical staff treating screaming and seriously injured patients, performing chest compressions, and Robby comforting a family member after receiving tragic news. A man is also shown hitting his head against one of the hospital doors with a bloody nose, as well as another patient struggling against the straps that keep him attached to a stretcher. As we can see in the preview, and as previously confirmed, the third season will change its setting. The team of doctors and nurses at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center will be in a cold environment, since the plot takes place in early November, during the fall-winter season in the northern hemisphere.

To recap, the first season took place during a 15-hour shift in September, while the second season jumped forward ten months to take place during the Fourth of July celebration.

The creator of the series, R. Scott Gemmillrevealed that the third season takes place in November to incorporate the cold weather into the plots, “Just before the holidays, a new wave of emergencies, confrontations and complications arrives.”

The production is filming on location in Pittsburgh to capture the cold, autumn and early winter atmosphere.

Previously, Wyle gave some details about the plot of the new season, saying that: “The premise of the first season is that the doctor is the patient. In the second, the doctors are not very good patients. In the third, the doctors benefit from being patients”.

The series is described as a realistic analysis of the challenges facing healthcare professionals in the United States todayseen through the perspective of those on the front lines inside the emergency room at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.
