This summer it will be released in theaters A Quiet Place: Day Oneprequel to A Quiet Placethe horror franchise John Krasinski y Paramount Pictureswhich will take the audience to know the origins and why the monsters arrived on Earth, whom we saw for the first time in the 2018 film.

The plot will take place in New York City, where Sam (Lupita Nyong'o), a woman who, while on a day trip in the city, must fight for her survival during the first terrifying moments of the alien invasion. While there, Sam meets a man named Eric (Joseph Quinn), with whom he agrees to navigate and survive together in the city.

Audiences got their first glimpse of the beginning of the alien apocalypse during a flashback sequence in A Quiet Place Part II (2020), where the Abbott family had their first fight with the alien invaders.

It is also during the events of Part IIthat the protagonists of said feature film, Regan Abbott (Millicent Simmonds), Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and Marcus (Noah Jupe), escape from the monsters and arrive at a remote island, where they discover a secret refuge with other survivors, including a man played by Djimon Hounsou, who is back in the prequel. The name of her character has not yet been revealed.

Regarding Hounsou's character in particular, the director Michael Sarnoski (Pig) tells EW:

“That was definitely a starting point for a lot of things. Then we took it in our own direction to explore, but [Hounsou] he certainly plays the same character he is in the second film. He's not her twin or anything like that. He is there and we get to learn a little more about the backstory of him and how that group of people started.”

“We'll know his name,” Sarnoski responds. “I won't tell you which one it is.”

Sarnoski directs the script co-written with Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter, Mud, The Bikeriders), based on an original idea by Krasinski.

In addition to Nyong'o, Hounsou, and Quinn, the main cast includes Alex Wolff (Hereditary, Pig, Old) y Denis O'Hare (True Blood).

Sarnoski shares the first details of Wolff's role:

“Alex Wolff plays a friend of Lupita's character who goes through some crazy things that they have to deal with together. The most important thing for me was that the first two films revolve around a family and these people who have established relationships. I wanted to explore a “A little more than what it would be like for strangers to have to go through the end of the world together.”

And it was Krasinski who approached Sarnoski to involve him in the new installment, after seeing his film Pig. The filmmaker reveals:

“He came up to me and said, 'Will you bring the touch of Pig to the universe of Quiet Place? How would that sound to you?' I came back to something I loved about the first two movies: yes, they're monster movies, they're horror thrillers that have exciting and scary moments, but at their core, they're stories about people facing something they don't know how to deal with. . “I wanted to focus on that, but in its own unique way.”

Krasinski produces with his company Sunday Night, with Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller producing with Platinum Dunes, and Allyson Seeger executive producing.

Paramount plans prequel spinoff to start a universe A Quiet Place that gives way to other future deliveries in future years.

A third film A Quiet Place centered on the Abbott family is being developed in parallel, with Krasinski possibly resuming his work as a screenwriter, and with a theatrical release planned for 2025.

A Quiet Place: Day One will be released in theaters June 28, 2024.
