The big announcement came last Friday: In April 2025, Axxon N. opens a new club space in the Kohlrabizkirkus. In any case, we also get a few thoughts and questions.
The LVZ announced that it will not remain silent for the future at the place of the Club, which was closed in early January for the future. Now it becomes more specific: Axxon N. is said to be the new club, operated by TK38 GmbH. According to the press release-by the way, there is-by the way, sent by a well-known Berlin music-PR office- “An association of creative local and national heads.” Anyone who belongs to the operator: Interior team – especially from the local context – does not emerge from the press release, but would of course have been very interesting. It is currently only that Lucas David Pulkert from Berlin will be active as managing director of TK38 GmbH. He has founded his own fashion label for premium socks and is currently leading the controlling of the Sea-Watch e. V.
Conceptively, Axxon N. wants to create a space that “Marginalized groups such as Queere, Flinta and Bipoc strengthens as well as the Leipzig club culture as a whole” – with a musically wide panorama on electronic music. That means: In addition to Hardgroove Techno and House, Axxon N. should also be space for experimental, noise, core and industrial sounds. On Thursdays, formats are planned for young talents, various genres are found on Fridays. Then stand on Saturday “The focus on carefully curated nights-from queer events to accessible community evenings to international headliners.”
So far, so exciting and so promising. A conclusions can be drawn for us between the lines of the somewhat vague and floral press release and the first Instagram post:
1. Apparently it only works with external capital
It seems that nobody in the Leipzig club scene has the financial means and the courage to manage a club succession of this size. This is by no means meant despising, but there is a lot of experiences from other areas in which external capital shaped the development of the city and partially led to imbalances.
2. The Leipzig LiveKombinat has become an important player for local club culture
The special thing about the first Axxon N.-Announcement is that the press release was published together with the Leipzig live kommmbinat. The official advocacy representation of several important clubs and concert venues was apparently very active in the fact that the location of the institute will be preserved as a club cultural place for the future. The fact that this was successful and the Council assembly as well as the Leipzig city administration and the city landlord of the cabbage rabis areas could be convinced of the project is a strong sign and illustrates that the association assumes a significant responsibility for the local scene. The extent to which the live kombinate was also involved in the acquisition and placement of a new operator remains open.

3. The city of Leipzig has also recognized the relevance of the local club culture
This is not necessarily new, after all, the city has employed a specialist officer for night culture and deliberately bought the Kohlrabizkirkus as a place of development for culture and sport. The way was paved that there can be space for club culture in the long term. Of course, this is certainly not. Because in the future, the majority in the city council should shift more closely towards conservative rights, there should also be less empathy for club culture. The BSW's application against the urban funding of Conne Island, Werk 2 and NATO in December 2024 gave a very unpleasant teaser on such scenarios in this regard.
4. The concept of Axxon N. is anything but innovative
First of all: No Front, we are very happy that this special place is preserved as a club space and that it should be used in a progressive sense. But honestly: the concept reads as almost all relevant Leipzig clubs have acted in recent years. Musical diversity instead of narrow-sized frames, open doors for local collective, established awareness structures. Sure, the extra focus on experiments sounds good and important at first. But the reality check will show what is really possible and affordable. Because the question is also: Is the Leipzig club scene open to experiments at all? It is not the case that other clubs have not already tried it, but then had to squeeze back because the evenings have not supported financially – especially in the past few years, in which the gap between increasing costs and lack of sales ensure major challenges has. In addition: How is the local scene integrated in the end? Mostly by self -curated and financed bookings or only by renting at your own risk?
5. A new operator: Interior crew does not mean that it continues sustainably
Unfortunately, the change from the MJUT to DUQO has shown that operators: the interior change and the courage to new concepts are not necessarily a guarantee of sustainable success, which, however, has to do with point 1 – it can only be done with external capital . The club culture currently experiences an extremely dynamic period, it may be at a historic turning point. It will only be shown whether the Axxon N. has the right answers and approaches to pave the way to a new generation of rave.
In any case, we are very happy that the crew is trying behind the Axxon N. In this sense: Welcome!
