Ayano Kaneko «Romance Sengen»/«Watashitachihe» – For a while I’ve immersed myself deeply in the Japanese music scene and I’m always fascinated by the great artists there that sadly we never hear about in this country. My favorite new discovery of the year is the singer-songwriter and actress Ayano Kaneko (カネコアヤノ), who has been making music for about 10 years, has recorded various albums and plays a very interesting mix of folk, low-fi psych rock, country and even chanson, so very varied. Her voice, which is very crass for a Japanese woman, is also remarkable. In any case, I am very enthusiastic and have become a big fan in the last few months.
The first song is a few years old but recently made famous by an internet meme (and has an ultra-charming video), the second is from this year and is a live recording in the studio that she does on and off and in which her sound is much rawer than on album.
Chime School «Coming To Your Town» – classic jangle guitar pop is played by this American band from San Francisco, which is on the Slumberland label.
