In one of his commitments to the press on the occasion of the promotion of Dropgranted an extensive interview with Vanity Fair, breaking the silence about the true reason that led him to abandon his commitment as director of Scream 7the next sequel to the Slasher saga Screamscheduled to premiere in cinemas in February 2026.

Landon tells VF that The controversy generated by the dismissal of Melissa Barrera was what caused her decision. Recall that, in November 2023, Spyglass Media Group fired Barrera from Scream 7after the Mexican actress expressed her support for the Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas. This generated a wave of criticism in social networks against Spyglass, the franchise, and Landon himself, whom some blamed for the decision of the production company.

The filmmaker explains to the environment:

I received messages that said: 'I will find your children and I will kill them because you support the murder of minors'. The Chief of Security of several studies and the FBI had to examine the threats. It was very aggressive and really scary.

Landon clarified at that time that it was not his decision to cut ties with a barrier, and reiterated it in his recent interview:

Landon affirms to VF that Spyglass wanted him to continue as director of the seventh installment, but the amount of abuse he suffered was not worth it.

I decided that I didn't want to give myself to that. For me, it was not worth it. I preferred to dedicate myself to something else, where I could feel appreciated and respected. Hate and abuse ruined my life and lost the illusion of moving forward. ”
