Fresh from his great triumph at the Oscars for Best Actor for his role in Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy returns to the big screen with the historical drama Small Things Like These.
Lionsgate The marketing campaign started by presenting the Official poster and trailer of the filmas well as revealing release dates for the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland markets.
After being screened at the Berlin Film Festival last February, Lionsgate acquired it for distribution in the aforementioned markets. It is set for release on November 1 in the UK and Ireland, and November 8 in the US through Roadside Attractions.
Set in the weeks leading up to Christmas 1985, the plot sees Murphy play devoted Father Bill Furlong in the drama based on Claire Keegan's bestselling novel of the same name. While working as a coal merchant to support his family, Bill uncovers disturbing secrets held by the local convent (and discovers his own truths), forcing him to confront his past and the complicit silence of a small Irish town controlled by the Catholic Church.
Also starring Emily Watson (Dune: Prophecy, Chernobyl), Eileen Walsh (The Magdalene Sisters, Ann), Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones, Gangs of London), Zara Devlin (Ann, Modern Love) y Ciarán Hinds (Belfast, The Terror).
Tim Mielants (Peaky Blinders) directs the feature film with a script by Enda Walsh (Hunger, Disco Pigs), adapted from Keegan's novel.
Murphy produces the film alongside longtime collaborator Alan Moloney of Big Things Films, Matt Damon and Drew Vinton of Artists Equity, and Catherine Magee. Executive producers are Ben Affleck, Michael Joe, Kevin Halloran, and Niamh Fagan.
