Cillian Murphy Receives First BAFTA TV Nomination For ‘Peaky Blinders’ – Cine3.com

For six seasons, Cillian Murphy He played Tommy Shelby in the critically acclaimed BBC original series, Peaky Blinderswhich said goodbye to its audience with said sixth season.

And now, for the first time, Murphy’s work is recognized for the first time with a BAFTA TV Awards nomination in the Best Lead Actor category. His only other BAFTA nomination was in the Rising Star Film category in 2007.

• Murphy’s nomination is the only nomination from the final season of the series.

Created by Steven Knight (Locke, Pawn Sacrifice, Woman Walks Ahead, Spencer, serie See), Peaky Blinders tells the story of Tommy Shelby (Murphy), and his family’s rise to prominence and power, against the backdrop of working-class post-World War I Birmingham.

The first season was broadcast on the BBC in 2013, gaining international popularity after being acquired by Netflix in the fall of 2014, for distribution outside the UK.

The story of the first season centers on the criminal gang the Shelbys, their dangerous leader Tommy, and the growth of his empire, drawing the attention of Inspector Chester Campbell (Sam Neill). In the second, we witness the expansion of the Shelby family empire from north to south, while maintaining their roots in their beloved Birmingham.

For the third season, we see the leader of the Shelby clan, Tommy, on his wedding day, as he is approached by a secret organization, placing him at the center of an international arms deal that could change the course of history. Meanwhile, his family has become extremely difficult to handle, and they threaten to destroy the Shelby family.

In the fourth season, each member of the Shelby family receives a mysterious letter on Christmas Eve and realizes that they are in danger. One year after the estrangement between the Shelbys, the family becomes the target of some mobsters. This forces them to unite again, agree to a truce between them and find another ally. When the mob closes in on Tommy, he flees his home and returns to the streets of Birmingham where he begins a desperate fight for survival.

The fifth season, the story of the Peaky Blinders and the Shelby family is plunged into the chaos of the 1929 financial crisis. Tommy Shelby, now a congressman, is approached by a charismatic politician with a proposal that may affect his family, even to the future of the nation.
