Courteney Cox in negotiations for 'Scream 7'

The news about the next installment of the slasher saga Screamcontinue to emerge, the most recent being a report from Variety in which it reveals that Courteney Cox is already in talks to reprise her role as Gale Weathers in Scream 7.

The information comes a couple of weeks after Neve Campbell announced that she will return as scream queen Sidney Prescott in the seventh film, after the actress was not part of Scream VI due to a salary dispute with Spyglass Media Group.

• Cox has been the only member of the original cast to appear in every installment of the horror franchise.

The sequel currently has no official title. It is referred to as Untitled Scream 7 o Scream VII. It will be directed by Kevin Williamsonthe creator and screenwriter of the original 1996 installment. Williamson wrote the original installment, as well as the sequels, Scream 2 y Scream 4. He has been the executive producer of the two most recent films, Scream 5 y Scream VI.

• Williamson took the reins as director following the departure of Christopher Landon late last year. It will be his debut as director of an installment of the franchise.

The script was written by Guy Busickfrom a story of James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. They both wrote the script for Scream 5 y Scream 6.

Vanderbilt produce Scream 7 alongside William Sherak and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment, and executive producers Radio Silence (consisting of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella).

Plans for the seventh Scream changed dramatically when Spyglass fired star Melissa Barrera for posts about the war between Israel and Hamas, which the company deemed anti-Semitic. A few days later it was announced that Jenna Ortega was also out due to work schedule conflicts.

The most recent sequel, Scream VI o Scream 6was released in theaters in March 2023, grossing more than $168 million worldwide, breaking the record for the highest domestic box office (US) for the slasher saga with $108.1 million.

Paramount Pictures has not announced a release date for Scream VII.
