THE SERIES THE ‘BURBS BET ON THE CONTEMPORARY

Set in modern-day suburbs, The ‘Burbs follows a young couple (Palmer plays the wife) who return to the husband’s childhood home. Their world is turned upside down when new neighbors move in next door, exposing old secrets of the cul-de-sac, and deadly new threats shatter the illusion of their quiet neighborhood.

As a curious factthe series will be filmed in Los Angeles in the same location as the original 1989 film, the backlot of Universal Studios Hollywood.

The movie The ‘Burbs (SOS Neighbors to the attackby its official title for Latin America) develops its plot in a typical neighborhood of the American suburbs, where we meet Ray Peterson (Tom Hanks), a stressed-out man who is convinced that his new neighbors, the strange Klopeks, are hiding something in their house, particularly in their basement. As the next-door neighbor, Ray hears noises coming from the place and sees strange things that have him obsessed with proving his paranoid theory that the family belongs to a cult of assassins. His wife Carol (Carrie Fisher), does not believe him, so Ray goes to his neighbors Mark Rumsfield (Bruce Dern) and Art Weingartner (Rick Ducomunn). The three of them will come up with a plan to discover what is hiding behind the mysterious new neighbors.

The black comedy directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins) is a classic of 80s cinema that at its release did not have critics or box office success in its favor. It was with time that it began to receive the credit it deserves until it reached the cult classic status.

The richness of the film comes from its characters. Fisher She plays the wife of Hanks' character, in a supporting role that is both comical and realistic. As Hanks spirals deeper into paranoia, Fisher brings him back down to earth. They are surrounded by the glorious Ducommun, Dern and Corey FeldmanThe chemistry between them is palpable, convincing and very funny. Their interactions are what make the film a gem of 80s cinema.
