Both the audience and critics received it extremely positively. A campaign even went viral among fans to launch Terrifier 2 as a candidate for the Oscar in the Visual Effects category.
Regarding the third installment, Leone advances:
“We are going to have a larger budget. We’re shooting in anamorphic widescreen, so I want it to feel more like an old-school John Carpenter film. It will still have that epic feel of the second part, but now it will have the tone of the first part with Christmas. It will be a completely different beast. It will look different. It will feel different, but will still have everything you love. But it will be very cool. It won’t be like you’re sitting through the first or second part again.”
The filmmaker previously shared that he wants it to be the scariest of the trilogy:
“I want to go back a little bit to the tone of the first part, which I felt was a little more simplistic and old school, a gritty slasher. I want this one to go back in that direction, and I want this to be the scariest one in the trilogy..”
“This one will actually have a bit more of an evil undertone to it, so hopefully it will be the scariest and darkest. I want it to feel like the audience coming into this isn’t as comfortable with Art the Clown as they are now. “I want to see if I can make them afraid of him again.”
Cineverse Corp. set the theatrical release of the next chapter of the horror saga under wide release on October 25, 2024, and a subsequent release on Screambox. Cineverse will distribute the film in the US and Canada. The project was officially launched in May, with the return of Leone and the producer Phil Falcone.
