Warner Bros. The marketing campaign for the Mexican filmmaker's most recent project has started Alejandro G.starring Tom Cruisein his first collaboration with the Oscar-winning director.

The studio shared a teaser trailer, the poster and Diggeras the official title.

In the short trailer, we see the silhouette of Cruise, playing Digger Rockwell, dancing with a shovel in his hands and standing on a boardwalk fence.

Many details about the project remain secret, however, the studio accompanied the promotional material with the following slogan:

“DIGGER. A comedy of catastrophic proportions. Only in theaters in October 2026.”

While the official description is the following:

“The tragicomedy follows the most powerful man in the world who causes a disaster and embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he is the savior of humanity before the disaster he has unleashed destroys everything.”

In addition to Cruise, the all-star cast includes Sandra Huller (Anatomy of a Fall), John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane), Michael Stuhlbarg (Your Honor, Call Me By Your Name), Jesse Plemons (Bugonia), Rice Ahmed (Sound of Metal), y Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me).

Iñárritu directs the script who co-wrote the script with Sabrina Berman (El Traspatio, Between Pancho Villa and a naked woman), Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman, The Revenant), y Nicolás Giacobone (Birdman, The Revenant).

The film is produced by Iñárritu and Cruise, with backing from Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment.

The project is Iñárritu's first English-speaking project since The Revenant (2015). In 2017 he presented Flesh and sanda virtual reality short film that gives the audience the perspective of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border with a coyote. Iñárritu debuted the project at Cannes 2017 and won a Special Academy Award Oscar for his achievement in virtual reality. In 2022, he co-wrote, edited, produced, and directed Bardonominated for the Oscar for Best Cinematography.

In January of this year, Cruise signed an agreement with Warner Bros. to develop and produce feature films for cinema, this being the first project under said contract.

Cruise's most recent film is Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoningwhich premiered in theaters in May of this year.

Digger opens in theaters on October 2, 2026.
