Emmy Awards 2026: 'Widow's Bay' consolidates itself as the big winner with 14 Emmys

The 78th edition of the Emmy Awards of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS, for its acronym in English), ended a few seconds ago, and became the big night of Widow’s Bayan Apple Original series starring Matthew Rhys, and the latest sensation on the small screen.

The ceremony took place this Monday, September 14 on a hot afternoon from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, changing its usual date from Sunday due to the NFL broadcast on NBC. In Latin America, the live broadcast was carried out through the TNT and HBO Max signal.

The iconic actress Law & Order, Mariska Hargitay She was the presenter of the gala, becoming the first woman in fifteen years to host the award ceremony.

It was a historic night for the aforementioned Matthew Rhyswho became the first actor to win twice in one night for two different projects; Rhys won the Emmy for best lead actor in a miniseries for The Beast in Me from Netflix, and best lead actor in a comedy series for Widow’s Bay from Apple TV; here he plays the skeptical mayor who leads the superstitious residents of a cursed New England island.

And speaking of Widow’s Baythe series won 14 Emmys, the most awards ever for a single season of a comedy series.

To manyalso from Apple TV, was another of the night's big winners, taking home 6 Emmys, including best actress in a drama series (Rhea Seehorn), best writing for a drama series, best editing, best sound mixing, best production design and best main theme.

The medical drama The Pitt repeated its win for best drama series now for its second season. The third season premieres on HBO Max in January 2027.
