Production on the third season had been postponed for a long time, in part due to the Writers' and Screen Actors Guilds' strikes, as well as the death of Angus Cloud in July 2023. The series has also been a great springboard for most of its cast, Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney y Hunter Schaferwhich has also complicated the coordination of production agendas and schedules.
In November 2023, HBO's Casey Bloys confirmed that the show's third season was expected to premiere in 2025, meaning there would be a gap of at least three years between seasons since season 2 debuted in January 2022. Due During the time gap between seasons, rumors had been circulating that season 3 would take place after a five-year time jump. The plan to premiere in 2025 remains the goal.
The series also stars Maude Apatow, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Nika King, Storm Reid, Colman Domingo y Austin Abrams.
The plot is set in the fictional town of East Highland, California, and revolves around Rue (Zendaya), a drug addict teenager struggling to stay sober and readjust to school after leaving rehab. Euphoria seeks hope while balancing the tensions of love, loss, and addiction. The series is based on an Israeli show of the same name created by Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin. And while she has received praise for her performances (the series has won nine Emmy Awards during its first two seasons, including two for Zendaya, making her the youngest two-time Emmy winner, and one for Domingo), it has also generated negative reactions for its sexual content and its representation of drug use.
In an interview with Elle in August 2023, Levinson described season 3 as a “film noir” and said Zendaya's character of a recovering addict “would explore what it means to be a principled individual in a corrupt world.”
