Without a doubt, one of the biggest surprises in horror cinema of the year 2022 was Smilefrom the screenwriter and director Park Finn y Paramount Pictures.

Its good box office (more than $217 million with a budget of $17 million) and the great reception by critics and the audience, ensured that Paramount did not hesitate and gave the green light to the sequel Smile 2with Finn again as writer and director.

The movie marked Finn's debut as a feature film writer and director. Previously she wrote and directed the short films The Hidebehind (2018), y Laura Hasn’t Slept (2020), the latter was precisely the inspiration to create Smile (here you can see the short film).

In case you have not yet seen the one titled in our country as Smilewe tell you that the plot follows the character played by Bacon sauce, Dr. Rose Cotter, whose patient dies in front of her after telling her about a horror she witnessed that made her smile chillingly. Whatever she saw, she apparently passes it on to Rose, a la movies like The Ring, The Grudge, It Follows, Countdown, among other. From this moment, Rose begins to experience horrible events that she cannot explain, and she must confront her disturbing past in order to survive and escape her new and horrible reality.

For a long time it was believed that the story of the sequel smile 2would focus on Kyle Gallnerwhose character survived the violent attacks in the first film, and while the actor has signed on for the sequel, the first details of Smile 2 They suggest that we will be dealing with something on a larger scale.

In addition to the return of Kyle Gallnerthe cast is made up of Naomi Scott (Aladdin, Charlie’s Angels, Power Rangers), Lukas Gage (The White Lotus, Road House), Rosemarie DeWitt (The Staircase, Little Fires Everywhere), Dylan Gelula (Dream Scenario), Raul Castillo (Army of the Dead, Class of ’09), y Miles Gutierrez-Riley (The Wilds).

THE PLOT

Direct from the Paramount Pictures panel at CinemaCon 2024, the media /Film, one of those present in the audience, shares with readers the details of the teaser that the studio shared of Smile 2. The trailer is not yet available to the online public, but we will share what is described by the media:

“The teaser for “Smile 2” that was screened at CinemaCon 2024 focused on the new character played by Naomi Scott, a music celebrity whose glamorous world is about to be dragged to hell. After a few glimpses of her pop star performances, the footage showed that Scott's character was surprised when a man (played by Lukas Gage) burst into his dressing room and smiled creepily at him. Elsewhere in the footage, he is confronted by a boy in braces who flashes him a similar evil smile.

“The footage is much more 'flashy' than the first film with a distinctly more dazzling look, reflecting the fact that this time the story of 'Smile' is told through the lens of a global pop star (and also, perhaps, reflecting a larger budget).”

Finn signed a multi-year first-look deal with Paramount, with the sequel one of the priorities. Parker will script, produce and direct projects in the horror genre through this agreement with the studio.

Paramount set the theatrical release of Smile 2 for October 18, 2024.
