Showtime! With filming in an active stage since last May, there are news about the sequel Beetlejuice 2 of Tim Burton and the study Warner Bros.

The People medium shared the first official images from the filming set in Hertfordshire, England, with the first glimpses in characterization of Winona Ryder in her return as Lydia Deetzthe character he played 35 years ago in the cult classic Beetlejuice (1988), and the newcomer to the franchise, Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Scream VI) playing the daughter of Ryder’s Lydia Deetz.

The glimpse comes from a scene apparently during a wedding; we see Ryder in his trademark gothic black color and spiky bangs hairstyle. Ortega for her part, he wears a white tulle dress, which suggests that she is the one who is getting married.

The two images are found at the end of this note (via People Magazine).

Meanwhile, we remind you that the sequel also has the returns of Michael Keaton y Catherine O’Hara, reprising their roles from the 1988 cult classic, and other new additions like Justin Theroux (The Leftovers, The Mosquito Coast) in a role that has not been detailed, Monica Bellucci (Malena, The Passion of the Christ, Maffia Mamma), giving life to Beetlejuice’s wife, and Willem Dafoe (The Northman, Asteroid City, Spider-Man: No Way Home) playing a law enforcement officer in the afterlife.

Danny Elfman he also returns as composer of the original soundtrack.

Burton directs from the script by Mike Vukadinovich, with drafts by Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg. Burton, Katzenberg, and Grahame-Smith produce the feature.

Not much is known about the plot at the moment, except that Beetlejuice will return to cause more fun trouble.

The original film followed the spirits of a deceased couple who are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their house. The pair hire a malicious spirit in Beetlejuice to drive them out. Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Jeffrey Jones and Catherine O’Hara starred in the film, which grossed more than $75 million at the global box office.

In recent days, Keaton spoke to the media to discuss the excitement of reprising his iconic role as Beetlejuice (via Empire):

“Beetlejuice is the most fun you can have working. It’s so much fun, it’s great. And you know what it is? We’re doing it exactly like we did in the first movie.”

“[Tim] and I were talking about it years and years ago, we never told anyone. We’ve both said we’ll do it many times. We both agreed that if it does happen, it should be done as close as possible to the way we did it the first time. Invent things, make things happen, improvise and play riffs.”

Other producers include Tommy Harper, Plan B, Marc Toberoff, and David Geffen.

WB set the film to be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.
