Prime Video has published the first trailer for the film The Burial, starring Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones. The film is based on a true story that was adapted from the 1999 New Yorker article by Jonathan Harr of the same name. It looks like a good movie and Foxx gives a great performance.
The film tells the story of personal injury attorney Willie E. Gary (Foxx) who ends up helping the owner of a funeral home named Jeremiah Joseph O’Keefe (Jones) in a contract dispute against the Loewen Funeral Company. The synopsis says:
“When a deal goes wrong, the funeral home owner Jeremiah O’Keefe turns to charismatic attorney Willie E. Gary to save his family business. Tempers flare and laughter ensues as the unlikely couple bond while unmasks corporate corruption and racial injustice in this inspiring and triumphant story.
The movie is directed by Maggie Bettswho spoke about Foxx’s casting saying:
“The real Willie Gary has a huge personality and I knew that Jamie had the talent, charisma and reach needed to bring this complex and multifaceted character to the screen. She was perfect for the role, and brought a lot more humanity and vulnerability to the character than she ever expected, which, as a director, was very exciting.” She added: “The film is triumphant and inspiringand will leave audiences laughing, cheering, and feeling deeply.”
The film also stars Jurnee Smollett and Alan Ruck and will premiere on September 11 at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Burial will be released in theaters on October 6 and will arrive on Prime Video on October 13.
