After acquiring the rights in 2015, Blumhouse officially launched the adaptation in February 2018, with Scott Cawthoncreator of the game, working side by side in the development of the film working as one of the scriptwriters. Tammi, Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback wrote the screenplay.
