Ingredients
1 baguette or French bread (preferably stale)
2 cups of milk
2 eggs
1/2 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
Vegetable oil (for frying)
Icing sugar (optional, for sprinkling)
Directions
- Cut the baguette or French bread into slices about 2 cm thick.
If you prefer, remove the skins from the slices. - In a large bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar and ground cinnamon.
Beat well until you get a homogeneous mixture. - Dip the bread slices into the milk mixture, letting them soak for a few seconds on each side.
Make sure all sides of slices are soaked well. - Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Make sure there is enough oil to cover the bread slices. - Place the bread slices breaded in the frying pan with the hot oil.
Fry for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until golden and crispy. - Remove the fried bread slices from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- In a shallow dish, combine powdered sugar and cinnamon.
Dip the fried french toast in the cinnamon-sugar mixture, covering all sides. - Transfer the french toasts to a serving platter.
If desired, sprinkle icing sugar on top for a prettier presentation. - Serve the french toasts still warm.
They can be enjoyed both for breakfast and as a dessert.
