Make this Homemade Tomato Sauce following the instructions in the preparation method.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg of ripe tomatoes

  • 1 large chopped onion

  • 4 minced garlic cloves

  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • 1 tablespoon of sugar (optional)

Directions

  • Wash the tomatoes, remove the top and cut them into large pieces.
  • In a large pan, heat the oil over medium heat. 
    Add the onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
  • Add the garlic and sauté for another minute.
  • Add the tomatoes and stir well.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Cook over medium heat for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • If you want a less acidic sauce, add a tablespoon of sugar and stir well.
  • When the sauce has the desired consistency, remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Blend the sauce in a blender or food processor until smooth.
  • Pass the sauce through a sieve to remove the seeds and skins.
  • Check seasoning and adjust if necessary.
  • Put the sauce back in the pan and reheat before serving.

Notes

  • If you like, you can add fresh herbs like basil, oregano, or thyme to give the sauce extra flavor. Homemade tomato sauce is great with pasta, pizza, meat and vegetables. Enjoy!
