Ingredients
1.5 kg of ripe tomatoes
1 large chopped onion
4 minced garlic cloves
3 tablespoons of olive oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon of sugar (optional)
Directions
- Wash the tomatoes, remove the top and cut them into large pieces.
- In a large pan, heat the oil over medium heat.Â
Add the onion and sauté until soft and translucent. - Add the garlic and sauté for another minute.
- Add the tomatoes and stir well.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook over medium heat for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- If you want a less acidic sauce, add a tablespoon of sugar and stir well.
- When the sauce has the desired consistency, remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Blend the sauce in a blender or food processor until smooth.
- Pass the sauce through a sieve to remove the seeds and skins.
- Check seasoning and adjust if necessary.
- Put the sauce back in the pan and reheat before serving.
Notes
- If you like, you can add fresh herbs like basil, oregano, or thyme to give the sauce extra flavor. Homemade tomato sauce is great with pasta, pizza, meat and vegetables. Enjoy!
