After a while without news, the ranks of the cast of the live-action of Masters of the Universe from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films reports movement.

According to reports from TheWrap, Idris Elba is in the early stages of negotiation to play Man-at-Arms.

If the talks take place, Elba would be joining Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You) like He-Man, Camila Mendes (Riverdale, Do Revenge, Upgraded) as the warrior Teela, and Alison Brie as the villain Evil-Lyn.

Travis Knight (Bumblebee, Kubo and the Two Strings) will direct the script written by Chris Butler. There was previously a draft script written by David Callaham, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee.

“The film follows ten-year-old Prince Adam, who crashed on Earth in a spaceship and became separated from his magical Sword of Power, his only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking her down nearly two decades later, Prince Adam is transported back through space to defend his home planet against Skeletor's evil forces.

“But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam must first uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe.”

The film is based on the popular and well-known Mattel toy franchise launched in 1982. In the 80s it had an animated series lasting two seasons and 130 episodes, while in 1987 it was adapted for the big screen for the first time in live action, starring Dolph Lundgren. Over time, animated series have had numerous reboots.

Masters of the Universe It was previously in development at Sony Pictures and Netflix, before ending up in the hands of Amazon MGM Studios. It is produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films.

Elba's upcoming projects include the second season premieres of Hijack of Apple TV+, the sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 3Kathryn Bigelow's political thriller with no official title at the moment, and Heads of State.

The live-action will have a Exclusive release in theaters on June 5, 2026.
