Make your Italian casserole with the ingredients below and following the instructions below. It will be delicious.

Ingredients

  • 500g short pasta (penne, fusilli, rigatoni, etc.)

  • 500g ground meat (can be beef, pork or a mixture)

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 500g tomato sauce

  • 200g mozzarella cheese, grated

  • 100g grated parmesan cheese

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Oregano to taste

  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • Cook the pasta in boiling salted water according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic and sauté until soft and lightly browned.
  • Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until golden brown. Season with salt, pepper and oregano to taste.
  • Add the tomato sauce to the pan with the meat and let it cook for a few minutes until the flavors blend well.
  • In a large ovenproof dish, place half of the cooked pasta on the bottom. Top with half of the meat sauce and then half of the mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
  • Repeat the layers, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.
  • Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving. If desired, garnish with a few fresh basil leaves.
