Ingredients
500g short pasta (penne, fusilli, rigatoni, etc.)
500g ground meat (can be beef, pork or a mixture)
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
500g tomato sauce
200g mozzarella cheese, grated
100g grated parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Oregano to taste
Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Cook the pasta in boiling salted water according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic and sauté until soft and lightly browned.
- Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until golden brown. Season with salt, pepper and oregano to taste.
- Add the tomato sauce to the pan with the meat and let it cook for a few minutes until the flavors blend well.
- In a large ovenproof dish, place half of the cooked pasta on the bottom. Top with half of the meat sauce and then half of the mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
- Repeat the layers, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving. If desired, garnish with a few fresh basil leaves.
