Jason Momoa will continue to collaborate with the DC family.
The actor has just been announced as the latest signing of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowwhere he will be playing Lobo, the intergalactic bounty hunter.
Lobo is a space biker created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in Omega Men #3 in June 1983.
Momoa joins the protagonist Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon), Matthias Schoenaerts (The Regime), y Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem).
The film will be directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella), with a script Ana Nogueira.
Filming is scheduled to begin in January 2025 in London and Iceland. The premiere is scheduled for June 26, 2026.
THR reminds us that, “Over the years, there have been several attempts to bring Lobo to the big screen. Filmmakers like Guy Ritchie and Brad Peyton tried it, and Dwayne Johnson came close to playing him in the latter's version. In 2018, Warner Bros. and Michael Bay also flirted with the idea, but the concept never came to fruition. On the small screen, Emmett J. Scanlan played Lobo in the SyFy series, Krypton.”
Momoa was previously part of the DC world playing Aquaman, debuting the character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justicelater appeared in Justice Leaguetwo solo films Aquaman y Aquaman and the Lost Kindgomand the series Peacemaker. His farewell in theaters as Aquaman was a disappointment, as it grossed only $439 million dollars and failed among critics.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow It will be the second feature film in the new DC Universe supervised by DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran. The first of them, Superman by Gunn will arrive in theaters in July 2025.
