Filming of the second season of The Last of Us of HBO is active, and news regarding the cast continues to emerge.

According to reports from Variety, Jeffrey Wright has joined season 2 as Isaac, the character Wright voiced in the video game The Last of Us Part II.

The character is described as “the quietly powerful leader of a large militia group that sought freedom but has found itself trapped in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy.”

Wright joins the returns of Peter Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna like Tommy, and Rutina Wesley like Maria, and new additions including Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) like Abby, Young Mazino (Beef) as Jesse, Isabela Merced (Madame Web) like Dina, Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) as Nora, Spencer Lord (Riverdale) like Owen, Ariella Barer (How to Blow Up a Pipeline) I eat honey, Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick) like Manny, and Catherine O'Hara (Home Alone, Schitt's Creek, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) as a guest star.

After a record-breaking first season as the most-watched debut season of a series in HBO history, the second season will debut in 2025 on HBO in addition to being available for streaming on Max.

The series is based on the popular horror video game developed by Naughty Dog for PlayStation.

The second season of The Last of Us will adapt the sequel to the video game The Last of Us Part IIHowever, it is not expected that all in-game events will be limited to a single season. The sequel's sprawling, multi-character story is likely to span the timeline of at least two seasons.

Some of the new filmmakers who will be directing episodes of season 2 are Mark Mylod (Succession, The Menu), Nina López-Corrado (Perry Mason), Stephen Williams (Watchmen), y Kate Herron (Loki). They join the returning directors from the first season, Peter Hoar, Craig Mazin y Neil Druckman.

Mazin and Druckmann are also the co-creators, writers, and executive producers of the series.

This is what Mazin commented prior to the strikes about the plans to ELEPHANT:

“We will do some things exactly as they were in the game. We're going to do some other things that are in the game and we're going to do some things that are in the game, but we're going to do them differently in our own method. It doesn't matter if you've played the game or not. You will be surprised as the season progresses. We have some interesting twists and turns.”
