¡'Joker: Folie à Deux' reveals teaser trailer with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga!

The wait is over!

The afternoon of this Tuesday, April 9, Warner Bros. revealed the first official teaser trailer of the long-awaited sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux of the director and co-writer Todd Phillipsand the protagonists, Joaquin Phoenix in his return as Arthur Fleck/Joker/Gypsy, and Lady Gaga like Harley Quinn.

From the stage of Cinema Con 2024, the studio unveiled the trailer for the film that the audience had been waiting for with much anticipation. Things have changed. The Joker is no longer alone… the teaser also highlights the intervention of both Gaga and Phoenix, in which interpretations of absolute madness in the best sense of the word are predicted. Is the road to the Oscar beginning again for Phoenix and Gaga? Let us remember that she was nominated for A Star is Bornwhile Phoenix won the statuette for Joker.

The project also features the return of Zazie Beetz reprising her role as Sophie Dumond, and the additions of Catherine Keener (Get Out, The 40 Year Old Virgin), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges, Harry Potter), Jacob Lofland (Mud), y Harry Lawtey (Industry).

Pending details of the premise, it is known that the sequel It will have musical elements and is set in Arkham Asylum, which is where the first movie ends after Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) was sent there. The acclaimed JOKER (2019) by Phillips follows Arthur Fleck and his journey to becoming the crime clown, serving as the iconic villain's origin story, unfolding its plot in 1980s Gotham City.

Phillips co-wrote the script with Scott Silver. They both co-wrote Joker (2019).

In recent days the Cinematographic Association (MPA; Motion Picture Association) awarded to Joker 2 R Rating by:

“Some strong violence, constant language, some sexuality and brief full nudity.”

This is the same rating as the original movie, Joker (2019), although for different reasons: “strong bloody violence, disturbing behavior, language and brief sexual images.”

SOME DATA:

• The literal translation of Folie à Deux is in English Madness for Two, and in Spanish Madness for two. But it is also a term for “shared psychosis” or “shared delusional disorder,” which fits like a glove in direct reference to Joker and Quinn.
• Joker is known for his on-again, off-again abusive relationship with Harley Quinn, his psychiatrist at the Arkham Asylum mental institution, who falls in love with him and becomes his partner and partner in crime.
• Filming for the sequel began in early December 2022 in Los Angeles, CA. Production later moved to NYC, where it spent around three to four weeks filming. The sequel had been made official in November 2019.
• This is one of the few projects that has not suffered changes, cancellations or modifications after the merger of Warner Bros. Discovery (details here).
• Folie à Deux will exist outside of the DCU which is being worked on by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the co-presidents of DC Studios.
