After starring in high-profile film projects such as Pearl Harbor y Black Hawk Downcult cinema like The Faculty, The Virgin Suicidesand a twentieth anniversary delivery of Halloween, Halloween H20, Josh Hartnett was at the height of his fame in Hollywood.
And so Hartnett took a hiatus of more than a year to refocus his work on future projects.
In an interview with The Guardian on the occasion of the upcoming release of Trapthe horror thriller starring Hartnett, written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the actor reflected on the reasons for his departure from the movie mecca, explaining that at the time there was no difference between “the happy Josh and the unhappy Josh. People’s attention span was almost unhealthy.”
“There were incidents. People showed up at my house. People stalked me.”
[Cuando tenía 27]“A guy showed up at one of my premieres with a gun, saying he was my father. He ended up in prison. A lot of stuff happened. It was a weird time. And I wasn’t going to be of any use.”
Hartnett retired from leading man roles and from the major Hollywood studios, favoring smaller projects or independent films:
“Some of those films were successful, some of them failed, but I was always looking for something that was outside of what people expected of me.”
“I just didn’t want my life to be taken over by my job. And at that time there was this idea that you just had to give up on everything. And you saw what happened to some people back then. They were wiped out. I didn’t want that for myself.”
In recent years, Hartnett has worked with directors such as Guy Ritchie in Operation Fortuneand Christopher Nolan at the Oscars Oppenheimer.
“Maybe it’s also because of my age. I could name a million examples of actors who have become more interesting as they’ve gotten older. You can’t be naive forever, can you?”
