The filmmaker Luca Guadagnino is preparing his next feature film, the thriller After the Hunt with house in Amazon MGM Studios. The project signed Julia Roberts as the protagonist (via Variety).

According to the official description, Roberts plays a college professor who finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star student makes an accusation against one of her colleagues. As she navigates the difficult situation, a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light.

Additional cast members will be announced at a later date.

The script was written by the debutante Nora Garrett, who will executive produce alongside Karen Lunder of Imagine Entertainment. Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum of Imagine Entertainment are producing with Guadagnino and his company Frenesy.

Roberts' most recent roles include the Starz miniseries, Gaslitthe rom-com Ticket to Paradisewhich marked her return to the genre that launched her to stardom, and the apocalyptic thriller Leave the World Behind.

Guadagnino is the filmmaker behind acclaimed projects such as Call Me by Your Namethe remake of Sighsand the drama Bones and All. In April, his most recent film, the drama Challengers, starring Zendaya. At the 2024 Venice Film Festival, his romantic drama Queer, starring Daniel Craig, will premiere. This film is set in Mexico. Guadagnino is also preparing the adaptation Separate Roomsbased on the novel by Italian writer Pier Vittorio Tondelli.
