Hulu announced during the Television Critics Association summer tour that it has officially greenlit the television adaptation of Hulu. The Devil in the White City by author Erik Larson, which has been in development for a long time, with Martin Scorsese y Leonardo DiCaprio as executive producers.
Additionally, Hulu confirmed that it has signed Keanu Reeves in a leading role for the television series based on the bestseller.
Sam Shawco-creator of Castle Rock Hulu Original series, is on board as showrunner, with Todd Field as director.
Reeves will play the role as Daniel H. Burnham, the legendary architect who served as the driving force behind the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. The story follows Burnham and his determination to build a perfect exhibit as Dr. HH Holmes, the first The world’s modern serial killer, wreaks havoc on the city of Chicago.
No casting has yet been announced for Holmes.
DiCaprio acquired the rights to “The Devil in the White City” in 2010, planning to adapt the material into a feature film, with himself playing Burnham himself, with frequent collaborator Scorsese on board to direct the film. But scheduling conflicts and development difficulties ultimately delayed the project long enough for it to be recast as a television series.
Hulu has been developing the series since 2019. Scorsese and DiCaprio have been working on it since 2016.
We can see Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 4 in 2023. Right now it is in the pre-production of John Wick: Chapter 5. The comic book of the actor, BRZRKR will be made into a live-action movie starring himself.
For their part, Scorsese and DiCaprio are working on the launch of Killers of the Flower Moonwhose premiere has been set for 2023. In addition, they will collaborate for the feature film The Wager from Apple TV+. Scorsese will direct a Jerry Garcia biopic for Apple, with Jonah Hill in the lead role.
