Laura Dern joins Season 4 of 'The White Lotus' after the departure of Helena Bonham Carter

The acclaimed Emmy-winning anthology series, The White Lotushas added an Oscar winner to its main cast.

Laura Dern (Big Little Lies, Jurassic Park) has reserved a ticket to fill the dark comedy vacancy of Mike White y HBO. White is writing a new role developed specifically for Dernaccording to Deadline reports.

Curiously, Dern – or the voice of the actress – had a cameo in the second season of The White Lotuslending her voice to Abby, the unseen on-screen wife of Michael Imperioli's character.

The series is currently producing in France.

Dern's signing is confirmed after the abrupt departure of Helena Bonham Carter just a few days ago. In a statement shared by HBO last Friday, it was explained:

“With the filming of the fourth season of The White Lotus Having just started, it became apparent that the character Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not fit once on set. The role has been rethought, is being rewritten and a new actress will be sought in the coming weeks.. “HBO, the producers and Mike White regret not being able to work with her, but they remain big fans and look forward to collaborating with the legendary actress on another project soon.”

The fourth season of The White Lotus will mark a new collaboration between Dern and White, after the Oscar-winning actress starred in White's directorial debut, the tragicomedy Year of the Dog (2007), they later co-created and co-starred in the HBO series, According towhich earned Dern the Golden Globe in 2012.

The plot of the fourth season follows a new group of guests and employees of the White Lotus hotel during a week at the Cannes Film Festival..

The prestigious Cannes Film Festival, which takes place during the month of May, will be one of the locations for next season's production. Filming has continued on the French Rivieraalthough changes have been made to the distribution to adapt to the change in cast.

The hotels appearing in the new season are the Airelles Château de la Messardière in Saint-Tropez, and the Hôtel Martinez, located on the famous Croisette on the French Riviera. Filming takes place in Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Monaco. It will also be filmed in Paris, although the story will still be set on the Côte d'Azur.
