The popular horror franchise The Conjuring from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros., which currently consists of eight films and a ninth installment in development, will move to the small screen with a television series.
The Max Original production was officially announced in April 2023, and now, more than a year later, Casey Bloys, CEO of HBO and the streamer, reveals that development is still underway.
This is what Bloys told Variety in an interview on the occasion of the launch of Max in France and Belgium:
“There are other properties like “The Conjuring,” which is a big film franchise that we are developing into a series.”
Peter Safran is developing the series with Warner Bros. Television. The series “will continue the story established in the feature films.”
Safran with The Safran Company, and James Wan with Atomic Monster Productions, will produce the television project in association with WBTV.
- It will be the first TV series based on the film franchise of The spell.
The universe of The Conjuring deals with real cases of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, respectively.
The saga currently consists of eight films: The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do Ity The Nun 2. Altogether and globally, the saga collects more than $2,000 million dollars.
Prior to the theatrical release of The nun 2New Line and WB launched a new installment of the Conjuring universe, giving the green light to a sequel to the main saga, The Conjuring 4which will be officially titled The Conjuring: The Last Rites. Details about the plot and the case investigated by the Warrens that will be addressed this time are kept secret for the moment.
