Mel Gibson has officially confirmed and out loud that he will direct the highly anticipated and requested fifth installment of the action saga, Lethal Weaponknown as Arma mortal in our market.

During an appearance on the Inspire Me podcast, Gibson revealed some details about his involvement in the franchise, from taking the reins as director in tribute to his friend and mentor Richard Donner –who directed the four previous installments of the saga and who died in 2021– to details of the script that will continue with Donner's vision:

I am going to direct the fifth film in the Lethal Weapon saga“Gibson revealed.”Richard Donner, who did the other four, sadly passed away and was a good friend, and he commissioned me to bring the flag home in that case. So it will be my honor to do it.”

Donner had begun the script development process before his death:

I had gotten to writing the script pretty well and we used what was there. We keep digging at it, working at it and I'm very happy with it, it's good, I had a lot of fun doing it.”

[El guion] It's fun, but also quite serious, It tackles a couple of tough topics, so I'm looking forward to it.”

That combination and balance between fun and seriousness has been one of the characteristics of the Donner franchise, and one of the main reasons why it was placed among the audience's taste.

Specific details about the plot of Lethal Weapon 5 are currently under lock and key in some police department.

To the saga Arma mortal is starring Mel Gibson y Danny Glover as the dynamic duo Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh, respectively, two police officers with completely opposite personalities, who must put aside their differences to succeed in their cases. As the films progress, the relationship between the two evolves from brotherhood to being considered family.

The four installments have accumulated a global box office of more than $900 million dollars. The first film was released in 1987, while the fourth was released in 1998.
