The reboot of Miami Vice which is being prepared at home at Universal Pictures under the direction of Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick, F1: The Movie), has found its villain.

John Leguizamo has been added to the official title project Miami Vice ’85 as his main antagonist, according to THR reports. We can see Leguizamo right now in cinemas, in the box office and critical hit, The Odyssey de Christopher Nolan.

The actor joins a cast headed by Michael B. Jordan (Sinners) y Austin Butler (Elvis), as Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs and James “Sonny” Crockett, respectively, Alden Ehrenreich (Weapons, Oppenheimer), Whitney Peak (Molly’s Game), Camila Morrone (Something Very Bad is Going to Happen) y Danny Ramirez (The Last of Us, Top Gun: Maverick).

Leguizamo is currently in Los Angeles filming the Daniels' untitled project (Everything Everywhere All at Once). In March 2027 we will see it in theaters in The Exorcist: Martyrs de Mike Flanagan.

This new version, which adapts the classic TV series, explores the glamor and corruption of the mid-80s in Miami, and according to an official synopsis, it is “inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series that influenced culture and shaped everything from fashion to film”.

The script was written by And Gilroy (Nightcrawler, Andor), with a previous draft of Eric Warren Singer (Top Gun: Maverick, American Hustle), based on the characters created by Anthony Yerkovich for the original series.

Dylan Clark and Kosinski are the producers of the remake.

The production of Miami Vice It is scheduled to begin later this year. It will be filmed for IMAX.

The premiere is scheduled for May 19, 2028 in theaters via Universal Pictures.
