The popular Netflix and Warner Bros. Television series, YOU, is nearing its end. The streaming service announced having it renewed for a fifth and final seasonbringing the story of Joe Goldberg to its conclusion.
Penn Badgley will resume his role as serial killer Joe.
The final season will have a change behind the scenes, since the showrunner –and co-creator of the series– Will Gamble will leave his duties of four seasons as showrunner. The new showrunners will be Michael Foley y Justin W. Lo, who have been executive producers of You since season 1 and 2, respectively. Gamble will remain as executive producer.
Greg Berlanti and Gamble developed the series, which is produced by Berlanti Prods. and Warner Bros TV.
You originated on Lifetime, and while its first season failed to attract a broad linear audience on Lifetime, that all changed when it premiered on Netflix in December 2018. The series migrated to streamer after Season 1 where it became a global hit. . Its viewership has increased over the course of its first three seasons with more hours watched over 28 days for each season than the last. The fourth season has spent 5 weeks on the Global Top 10 English TV chart and reached the Top 10 in 90 countries.
Regarding the final season, Pete Friedlander, Netflix’s VP of Scripted Series, tells Deadline:
“We’re excited, and a little terrified, to see how it all ends for Joe Goldberg, but one thing is for sure: an unforgettable ending awaits you.”
Gamble adds to the statements:

And about the last season, Gamble anticipates:
