20th Century Studios continues to prepare audiences for the premiere of Alien: Romulusthe new installment of the saga Aliendirected and co-written by Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead), which will hit theaters next August.

Thus, the studio shares a new image look at the protagonist of this story, Cailee Spaeny (Civil War, Priscilla, Devs), who plays Rain Carradine, and David Johnson (Industry) as Andy, Rain's adoptive brother.

Álvarez tells Empire about this:

“When his father was dying, he left Andy as a kind of caregiver,” Álvarez explains of the dynamic between the two. “But Andy is a little damaged and he is an older model. So, more than a surrogate father, he becomes a little brother to her. And that was always the heart of the story: this relationship between the two… and how that relationship develops once shit hits the fan.”

You can find a look at both at the end of this note.

In addition to Spaeny and Jonsson, the cast includes Isabela Merced (Instant Family, Dora and the Lost City of Gold), Archie Renaux (Upgraded, The Other Zoey), Spike Fearn (After sun), y Aileen Wu.

An important fact about this new film is that unlike the other films that focused on adults in corporate, military and scientific roles, this ninth installment of the franchise will focus on a group of young people.

The project is described as “an original independent feature film.” The plot is located between the timeline of Alien (1979) by Ridley Scott, and the sequel Aliens (1986) by James Cameron.

  • Álvarez commented that Alien: Romulus It has a connection with the rest of the saga Alien.
  • The special effects are practical.
  • Alien: Romulus It is the seventh installment of the franchise Alienand the ninth installment if we take into account the crossovers Alien vs Predator.

“In this ninth entry in the immensely popular and enduring film series, a group of young people on a distant world find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

Álvarez co-wrote the script with his frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues (remake Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe, Don’t Breathe 2remake Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and produced the feature film in the company of Ridley Scottdirector of the original classic and the prequels Prometheus y Alien: Covenant.

The original classic Alien by Ridley Scott from 1979, ended with a shot in which the protagonist, Sigourney Weaver, expelled a Xenomorph from her escape capsule, before falling into cryogenic sleep that would take her back to human civilization. The sequel, Aliens by Cameron, released in 1986, picked up the plot years later, while Ripley accompanied a military mission investigating a possible Xenomorph attack on a remote space colony.

Alien: Romulus will be released in theaters on August 16, 2024 via 20th Century Studios. It will be the first installment of the saga Alien to be distributed by Disney.
