This summer we will witness the return of the strangers, with the premiere of The Strangers: Chapter 1the first installment of a trilogy inspired by the horror franchise The Strangers of Lionsgatewhich is carried out by the director Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea, Die Hard 2).
The studio continues to prepare the audience with more promotional material, the latest being a handful of official posters focused on the returning villains: Dollface, Pin-Up Girl and Man in the Mask. You can find the posters at the end of this note.
As previously announced, the masks of the killers from the original film will continue to appear in the new trilogy.
The trilogy was launched in September 2022. It is based on the original 2008 cult film by Bryan Bertino, of which Harlin has confessed to being a fan.
Chapter 1 focuses on the leading couple played by Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale, Jane) y Froy Gutierrez (Cruel Summer, Hocus Pocus 2, Teen Wolf), giving life to Maya and Ryan, a newly engaged couple, who ventures on a road trip. When their car breaks down, they are forced to spend the night at a secluded Airbnb in the woods, where three masked strangers terrorize and attack them from dusk to dawn, without warning or reason.
Apparently the first movie, Chapter 1is a remake of the original – and certainly that appears to be according to what is seen in the marketing – with the sequels, Chapter 2 y Chapter 3expanding the story in new and unexpected ways.
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:
A young couple drives across the country toward a new beginning; Unfortunately, they have no choice but to stop at an isolated Airbnb in Oregon and endure a night of terror against three masked strangers.
The script was co-written by Alan R. Cohen y Alan Freedland (The Freak Brothers, Due Date).
Harlin previously commented on the projects:
“Sin trying to trivialize it or explain it too much, the second and third films are an exploration of where it came from [todo]. More than anything, they are an exploration of what could happen to a person, in this case, a young woman, who is the victim of such senseless violence. What effect does that have on you mentally and physically, and what is your journey after that? It's an exploration of that more than anything. And I think we'll answer a lot of the questions that fans of the original have and then go much further. At the end of the third film, there really are more questions than answers.
Lionsgate will release in theaters The Strangers: Chapter 1 on May 17, 2024.
