The film distributor NEON, is preparing the premiere of another horror project this year. This is the Norwegian independent horror film, Handling the Undeadwith original title Dealing with the undeadfrom the screenwriter and director Thea Hvistendahl.
The most recent of the marketing campaign is the debut of the second official trailer, which you find at the end of this note.
The plot, based on the book written by John Ajvide Lindqvist (author of Let the Right One In), takes place on a hot summer day in Oslo, Norway. The newly dead mysteriously awaken, and three families are thrown into chaos when their deceased loved ones return to them. Who are they and what do they want? What does this resurrection mean? Have their loved ones returned?
The cast is headed by Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World), Bjorn Sundquist, Bente Børsum, Anders Danielsen Lie (The Worst Person in the World), Spring Gardene Ines Dauksta.
The film had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Festival, where the feature film was described as follows:
“Bringing together Renate Reinsve and Anders Danielsen Lie (The Worst Person in the World), Handling the Undead is an expansive visual experience, filled with dazzling images and subtle performances that collapse the space between the living and the dead. Director Thea Hvistendahl's steady directing hand leaves her characters room to breathe, to mediate the moral gray area, letting the minutiae of grief guide them as they navigate their way through an extraordinary circumstance. Hvistendahl's interpretation of Lindqvist's novel addresses daunting questions about the body, the soul, loss, and moving on, pushing viewers to get to the root of reanimation: What would you do and how would you feel if someone you love return?”
The script was co-written by Hvistendahl and Lindqvist.
The producers are Kristn Emblem and Guri Neby.
NEON is the distribution company behind acclaimed titles such as I, Tonya, Parasite, Palm Springs, Pigthe newly released Immaculatethe next to be launched Longlegs y Cuckoo.
NEON will premiere Handling the Undead in select US theaters starting on May 31, 2024.
