A little over a year ago, Sony Pictures and Amazon Studios announced that they have launched the live-action series of Spider-Man Noirexclusive to Prime Video.
While last February it was announced that Nicolas Cage was in negotiations to star in it. Cage played Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, as one of the many variants that provided aid to Miles Morales. Also appeared in the sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, making use of archival audio for Cage's return. In addition, a greater participation is expected for the third installment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Now Cage, during his visit to the SXSW 2024 Festival in Austin, Texas, confirms that he has had conversations about reprising the role (via Collider):
“Well, I can say that we have been talking. It's no secret that I love the character. I think the character provides another kind of mix. I can combine my favorite performances from the golden age, that is, Robinson, Cagney, Bogart, with a character that, I suppose, is widely considered to be Stan Lee's masterpiece. I see it as a kind of foray into a pop art mix of, a kind of Lichtenstein [junguiano]mixed through Bogart and Cagney, but nothing is final yet. It's just conversation.“
If negotiations go through, this would be Cage's first big TV project. His last participation on the small screen is as host of the documentary History of Swear Words from Netflix. At the beginning of her career she starred in the pilot of The Best of Times with Crispin Glover.
Spider-Man Noir is an alternate version of Spider-Man from a universe set during the 1930s. Characterized by its black and white aesthetic, Spider-Man Noir operates in a gritty, noir-themed New York City. Unlike the more familiar and colorful Spider-Man, this version is a tough detective who fights crime in a dark and corrupt world, combining superhero elements with classic noir fiction tropes, such as moral ambiguity and a focus on crime. crime drama.
The duo Phil Lord y Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) are on board the series as producers, and Ears Uziel (22 Jump Street, The Cloverfield Paradox, Mortal Kombat, Escape Room 2) as the main screenwriter. Steve Lightfoot will be the showrunner.
