Last month, it was revealed that the 1981 horror film, Possessionthe Polish cinematographer Andrzej Żuławski, will have a remake in charge of Parker Finnscreenwriter and director of the horror hit Smiley Robert Pattinson as a producer.

The project sparked a bidding war from all the major and independent studios and streamers in the film industry, Paramount Pictures emerging as the winning studio in the biddingaccording to THR reports.

“The deal comes in the shadow of the landmark transaction in which parent company Paramount Global agreed to be acquired by a consortium led by Skydance. That deal will take approximately one year to complete, including clearing regulatory hurdles.”

Finn will write, direct and produce the remake, with Pattinson serving as another producer.

Pattinson's involvement is limited to his role as producer. Once the script and schedules are clearer, it will be known if he will also be part of the cast.

At the moment there is no information on other details, since as mentioned, the project is in the early stages of development.

The plot of the original film is set in West Berlin. Sam Neill plays the lead role as a spy who returns home from the countryside with his wife (Isabella Adjani) and son. All is not well on the marital front when the wife files for divorce and the couple descends into a destructive cycle that not only includes infidelity and neglect, but leads to murder, a tentacled alien creature and doppelgangers.

Possession It was a co-production between Germany and France, and was not a huge hit when it was released in theaters in 1981, but it achieved cult status over time and gained a large fan following.

Finn is producing with his Bad Feeling label, and Pattinson is producing with his Icki Eneo Arlo label. Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment is also producing.

Finn is currently in post-production on Smile 2sequel to the biggest horror hit of 2022, Smilewhich marked his feature film debut. The sequel is set to hit theaters on October 18 of this year.

The deal is another major step in Finn's career, as he already has a first-look deal with Paramount, although the Possession remake was not part of this deal. Paramount was encouraged to acquire the remake after seeing the final result of Smile 2. It is intended that Possession be Finn's next movie.

Pattinson's latest film is The Batman (2022). In 2025 we will see it on the big screen with the premiere of Mickey 17 by Bong Joon Ho.
