'Peaky Blinders' movie confirmed with Cillian Murphy's return; filming starts in September – Cine3.com

Steven Knightcreator of the acclaimed BBC original series, Peaky Blindersconfirmed that the show's sequel film is a fact, and revealed that the recent Oscar winner, Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) will reprise his leading role as Tommy Shelby.

Filming of the feature film will begin next September.

Knight revealed to the Birmingham World:

“Definitely [Cillian Murphy] will come back for it. We're filming it in September, just down the road in Digbeth [Inglaterra].”

The Serie Peaky Blinders tells the story of Tommy Shelby (Murphy), and his family's rise to prominence and power, set against the backdrop of post-World War I working class Birmingham.

Murphy led the cast of the crime drama series, which aired six seasons between 2013 and 2022. The first season (2013) was broadcast by BBC, gaining international popularity after being acquired by Netflix in the fall of 2014, for its distribution outside the United Kingdom.

In 2022, Knight commented that he knew what it would be about, which at that time was a possible film Peaky Blinders:

“I know exactly what the movie is about. And I know which two stories it will tell. What happens after that, I want it to depend on the movie. For all we know, someone is going to show up, I think I know who it will be.”

Murphy is one of the actors of his generation with one of the most interesting filmographies, having made himself known to the mainstream audience with the post-apocalyptic film 28 Days Laterand outstanding performances in the trilogy The Dark Knight de Christopher Nolan, Red Eye the Wes Craven, The Wind that Shakes that Barley, Breakfast on Pluto, Inception, Red Lights, Dunkirk, Free Fireand of course, the series Peaky Blinders.

However, it was not until Oppenheimer, who obtains recognition from the industry in which he has worked since the late 90s, with his first nomination and victory at the Academy Award, for his performance as the World War II scientist, considered one of the fathers of the atomic bomb. Murphy won best actor at the Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, among others.
