The iconic filmmaker Pedro Almodovar is making its debut with an English-language production this year, with the release of The Room Next Doortitled in our country as The room next door.
Tilda Swinton y Julianne Moore They co-star in the drama as two close friends estranged by work circumstances, who reunite when one of them finds herself in a precarious life-or-death situation.
This is a new collaboration between Swinton and Almodóvar, after the actress starred in the short film The human voice (2020).
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:
“Ingrid (Moore) and Martha (Swinton) were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid became a writer of autofictional novels while Martha became a war reporter, and life circumstances separated them. After years of not having contact, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.”

The rest of the cast is made up of John Turturro (Severance, The Batman), Alexander Nivola (Disobedience, Boston Strangler), Victoria Luengo (Riot police, Red Queen), Juan Diego Botto (Everybody Lies, The Suicide Squad), Raul Arevalo (The Asunta case), y Alex Hogh Andersen (Vikings, Granite Harbour).
Almodóvar wrote the script adapting the book What Are You Going Through by Sigrid Nuñez.
Filming took place in Madrid, although it depicts the lives of women in Manhattan and upstate New York.
The Next Door Room will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, followed by screenings at TIFF and NYFF.
Agustín Almodóvar produces the feature film, with Joshua Blum, Esther García, and Han West as executive producers.
Sony Pictures Classics will distribute The Room Next Door In select US theaters on December 25. In Mexico and the rest of Latin America it will be distributed by Warner Bros. in theaters starting October 18.
