On June 6, the billboard is renewed with very varied proposals for cinema lovers. Among the most outstanding premieres we find Sirâtthe new Oliver Laxe film, a jury prize at the recent Cannes Festival, which transports us to the Moroccan desert on a mystical trip; Good luckdirected by Gracia Querejeta, an adaptation of Rosa Montero's novel that explores the moral dilemmas of fatherhood; The house at the end of the curveby Jason Buxton, a Canadian psychological drama about mental fragility and paranoia; and One to One. John & Yokothe documentary of Kevin Macdonald and Sam Rice-Edwards that revive the historic concert of Lennon and Yoko Ono, intertwining music and social activism.
Sirât (Oliver Laxe, 2025)
The cinephile with Agallas will taste this Laxe's trip for the Moroccan desert that has received a notable prize in Cannes. A father with his little son in search of his daughter who has not news for months joins the group of Raveros. Initiatory, searching for paradise or mystical experiences with the convulsions of the body to the rhythm of electronic music and joints. But the title means the bridge to cross, crossing the hell underneath, to go to heaven. You have to have a little patience and know that the important thing is not the story, and that the last section opens the film to a remarkable, although hard. I was interested, I liked it and moved me; But I dare not recommend it.
Good luck (Gracia Querejeta, 2025)
This adaptation offers the same tone and mood as Rosa Montero's novel of the same title: both look or read very well, even if they are not ambitious works, as they are limited to An intrigue that develops the moral debate on how to behave a father with a criminal son. Hugo Silva, Megan Montaner, my admired Miguel Fill and the rest of the cast very well, as well as the direction of Querejeta. Recommended without alharacas.
The house at the end of the curve (Jason Buxton, 2024)
The title and argument could refer to a horror movie. On the contrary, this curious piece of Canadian film has a realistic treatment of a singular conflict: The paranoia that a man develops following several car accidents next to his house; loses jobs and break their family relationships. I believe that this psychological drama reveals the fragility of our mind against circumstances that can alter it radically. A small work with interest and quite novelty.
One to One: John & Yoko (Kevin Macdonald y Sam Rice-Edwards, 2024)
The title refers to Concert given by the exbeatle and Yoko Ono in 1972 shortly after settling in the United States for the benefit of children with special needs. But in the thread of fragments of that event, interventions are reflected in the social struggles of the time, the pacifist and antivitnam response, the criticism of the policy of Richard Nixon, allegations of homophobia and minority conditions, etc. He handles radio and little -known material recordings that will delight Lennon's mitoms and fans.
