Ridley Scott working on a sequel to 'Alien: Covenant' centered on Michael Fassbender's character

The prequel saga Alien of Ridley Scott It has a future.

The filmmaker has just confirmed that he is working on a third film, which will be a sequel to Alien: Covenant (2017).

The new project will focus on the character played by Michael Fassbenderthe android David, as he creates a “happy world” for himself.

In an interview with the LA Times, Scott commented that he was fascinated by the character and the idea of ​​an artificial intelligence that malfunctions:

“AIs can get out of control. And if that happens, it's like a bomb”.

The director prefers to make films about AI rather than use it himself; although he assures that, for now, “can compete with an AI without problems”is concerned about a future in which this technology becomes “smarter than us”.

The franchise Alien released the first film in 1979, the film classic directed by Scott. The filmmaker disassociated himself from directing the sequels of the saga until he resumed the reins with the prequels, Prometheus (2012) y Alien: Covenant (2017).

Prometheus follows a Weyland Corporation research team on a mission to find the origin of human life, only to discover dangerous biological weapons that resemble xenomorphs. Noomi Rapace plays an archaeologist and Fassbender plays the android David, who becomes a central figure of the expedition, and, as he becomes fascinated by these alien organisms, he progressively loses interest in humanity.

Covenant It sets its plot ten years later, and focuses on the crew of the ship Covenantwhich, investigates a distress signal on an unknown planet at the farthest point of the galaxy, where they stumble upon the synthetic David, who has been conducting disturbing experiments.

The cast included Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo, among others.

The film concludes with a surprising revelation that hinted at the arrival of a sequel. However, the next installment of the saga, Alien: Romulushad practically no relationship with the previous ones, except for a few references. The plot is situated chronologically between the first and second films of Alien. This film, directed by Fede Álvarez, was a box office success. A sequel to Romuluswhich is scheduled to begin filming later this year.
